Copy 2

This my finished piece.

This is a comparison between the original copy on the left and my copy on the right side, overall I am pleased with how similar my copy was.

To create the eye for my copy I used lots of different tools such as the pen tool and the shape tool I also used quite a few colours in the eye so I had the Colour guide dragged out so I could get the same colour for different parts.

To create the text I just found a similar font and I used the character tool bar to resize and reshape it to make it look similar.

I started with neck/body part of the character the reason I did this is because I could know where to put the head and I could get it the right size

To create the spanner I put the original one near it zoomed it and carefully recreated the shape using the pen tool and the shape tool.

Basic Drafting

This is my first basic draft I created this so I could build on ideas I had and visualize it in its simplest form, the concept of this draft is that he is holding up the city in which he lives in which is 'Detroit' and the reason he is holding it up is because in his main song in the album which is called under pressure he raps about how he is under pressure from Detroit to create more music, so this image is meant to show that he is under pressure and he is trying to hold the pressure.

Photo's of subject matter

Photo's of subject matter:

These are my photos of subject matter, the reason I have taken these images is to gather ideas of what the scene of my final piece could look like and what the main character I am thinking of having could look like and some of the poses they could be doing.

The poses I have taken images of, are all the types of poses/stances I have seen on rap covers, usually on rap covers you have the main artist not looking forwards (most likely looking down), these images should be really useful to develop my ideas for my final piece.

Emulation

This is my Emulation, it is done in a similar style to Jim Flora's Mambo for cats, the style he uses is a simple vector image with aztec patterns behind the main characters, the colour pallet he uses is complementary colours, for example he uses Red and Green, as I was emulating his work I used different colours which were Blue and Orange.

To create the main character I used the pen tool to create vector images, I created my emulation in Illustrator, the reason I did this is because Illustrator makes vector images which do not have pixels, so this is better than photoshop because it comes out clearer and sharper.

To create the text for my emulation I used photoshop, in photoshop I used the pen tool to create a similar looking text and I used some of the Letters I had made for my copy, when creating my text I used different layers for each letter this really helped as I could know which letter I was picking.

To create the companies logo, I used the original photo for the dog and just went round it and re-vectored it, then I just re-created the text.

Copy

This is my Copy of Jim Floras
Mambo for cats, the reason I chose this artist and vinyl cover is because it has a different style compared to the others.

To create this I used the pen tool to re-create the shapes.

This is the original cover of Jim Floras Mambo for cats.

When creating the Text for this copy I used the pen tool to make the different coloured shapes then I put them together and resized them and re-shaped them so they were the same size and in line with the original text.

When creating this copy I used the ruler tool to mark out where everything had to be and the general position the cats had to be, this was really useful as it helped me get my copy as accurate as possible.

When making this copy I used colour pallets so I could quickly find the colour I after.

Pins

To gather ideas for my final piece I created a Pin board where I pinned similar artefacts, and I took ideas from some of the album covers I pinned this has really helped me and given me a clear idea of what I want to do for my final piece.
